Announcement vs. availability date of different flagship phones

Let's compare the announcement and availability date of flagship phones from different brands in Malaysia. iPhone X: 3 Nov vs. 24 Nov Galaxy S9: 16 Feb vs. 16 Mar Mate 10 Pro: Oct 16 vs. Nov 24 Mi 6 (Mi 8 predecessor): Apr 19 vs. Aug 5 Mix 2S: Mar 27 vs. June 1 It is not hard to see why Malaysia Mi fans were unsatisfied. Note: This is a backdated post, I was hoping Mi 8 will be arrived sooner at that time. However, it was a disappointing wait, Mi phones nowadays just feel crappy software wise.

Facebook Home

Image
Facebook addicts rejoice! Facebook just introduce Home, a group of apps that change your Android phone into a Facebook phone. Besides the overhaul of Android lock screen and home screen by Coverfeed, one notable feature is messaging, it appears everywhere, on top of the app you are using. Facebook Home would be available from 12 April, but initially on HTC One, One X, Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, and Note II. You can expect more phones to be compatible with Facebook Home as Samsung, Sony and HTC have already signed up the Facebook Home Program . Accompanying the launching of Facebook Home, the first phone optimized for Facebook Home, HTC First , is also announced. Sounds good eh? Unfortunately, Facebook Home will not be free from ads , just not at launch. SOURCE The Verge

Perks of being a Galaxy S2 owner

Image
Samsung sure know how to promote their flagship smartphone. Until today, Galaxy S2 owners still can get free games from Samsung Apps , an Android Market equivalent offered by Samsung. Last year, in accordance with WCG 2011, one Gameloft full game (Asphalt 6: Adrenaline) was provided free of charge to Galaxy S2 owners. Then, Samurai II: Vengeance was available for free as well. Unfortunately, both of them are not complimentary anymore. At the time of writing, Samsung Apps is charging RM 18 or S$ 5.35, but both games are available much cheaper in Android Market (refer to the picture above, price of the games are shown in USD, convert normally). There are currently two not-to-be-missed, high quality 3D games that are available for free in Samsung Apps: Dead Space and Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation. Be sure to check the compatibility with your device; for example, the MC3 promotion is only for Galaxy S2. Back to the games, I personally was astounded by the excellent graphics in ...

Yesterday, DiGi tweeted that a tablet with Super AMOLED Plus will be available today. The tablet mentioned most likely is Galaxy Tab 7.7, given that it was launched in Singapore few days ago. Update: You can read more about Galaxy Tab 7.7 at the new Samsung Malaysia Webpage . Update2: The pre-order for Galaxy Tab 7.7 is back online with revised, cheaper price.

Galaxy Nexus coming soon to Malaysia & Singapore

Image
At first glance, Galaxy Nexus has a lower spec compared to Galaxy SII , but a mobile phone is not just about the hardware, as Galaxy Nexus is the first phone to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). This is a major selling point of the device, introducing a pure Google experience, no Sense, no Touchwiz, just vanilla Android. You can find the technical specifications here and a benchmark report here . Notable specifications includes NFC and a 4.65" HD screen ( not Super AMOLED Plus though).

Galaxy SII: Price drop or spec drop?

Image
Last edited 1 Nov 2011.  SOURCE Samsung Malaysia Facebook Page Two weeks ago, the recommended retail price of Samsung Galaxy S2 dropped from RM2099 to RM1899. This is a rather weird move as SGSII is selling like hot cakes. Around the same time, there are users ( here and here ) reporting that Samsung Malaysia silently changed the System-on-Chip (SoC) in I9100 and renamed version of the new sets to I9100G. The original SoC is Exynos 4210 (with Mali-400) and the new SoC is a lower performance Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 (with SGX540). The OMAP 4430 SoC is used in LG Optimus 3D and the performance is indeed poorer than Exynos according to a review by AnandTech (VIA Jayce Ooi's Paradise ). Later, Samsung Malaysia did not deny the change and posted the following response : Samsung has released both device variants (I9100 and I9100G), which are being released at the same price and provide identical product features (including Super AMOLED plus screen and 1.2 GHz dual...

Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011 - Google Episode

Image
Samsung Mobile is teasing us with a new video that show us a quick glimpse of a curved phone (Nexus S, anyone?) It is so obvious that this is the Nexus Prime, a rumored Google phone that will run the new Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. You can check the rumored spec here. VIA SoyaCincau

Samsung Unpacked 2011 Episode II - Galaxy Note

Image
Samsung Mobile just launched three new products in their Unpacked Episode in Berlin: Galaxy Note, Wave 3 and Galaxy Tab 7.7. What interested me the most is Samsung Galaxy Note . It reminds me of HTC Flyer, which is considered as a failure in my opinion. Will the new S Pen brings back the natural writing experience on a 5.3" screen? We shall see.

Samsung Galaxy R (i9103) coming soon in Singapore?

Image
Samsung Galaxy R is a cheaper variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, featuring a slightly smaller LCD screen, a tuned-down CPU with Tegra chipset, and also a lower megapixel camera (up to 720p video recording). It is rumoured that Galaxy R is coming to UK shores at the end of July, well, maybe there is a chance for it to land on Singapore as well. Why do I say that? Since Samsung Apps could not start without a SIM card, it suggested that the app might check for locale. I found the Retail Mode for Galaxy R in Samsung Apps while using my Singapore SIM card. What do you think? Update: Official announcement for Galaxy R is out. Update2: IDA Singapore registration for Galaxy R spotted together with Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1. Update3: Galaxy R is launched in Singapore . Edited 16 Oct 2011.
