Singapore getting Super AMOLED Plus for Samsung Galaxy S II

Yes, Singapore is getting Super AMOLED Plus. Also, YouTube user samsungmobilerdom released a series of videos of testing a believed-to-be final retail version of Samsung Galaxy S II. Hit the break for more updates.

Update: Getting a 9/10 for an Android phone in Engadget is rare, another +1 for me to get SGS II.

Update2: Looks like Samsung Mobile Singapore is discussing with the local telcos.

Update3: Korean website DaNaWa.com reported that Galaxy S II costs 450,000 Won, which is only about RM 1300! (VIA GSMArena VIA Samsung Mobile Singapore) Edit: It is the price with plan.

Update4: One thing certain: the release of SGS II in Singapore will be 2nd Quarter (Apr-Jun), the most rumored date is 20 May but would be highly unlikely as it is just this Friday. Another rumored date is 9 June, which is the first day of PC Show 2011 in Singapore!

Update5: alieamin started a SGS II pre-order thread in Lowyat.NET forum, stating a RRP of RM2099 and ETA in Malaysia as last week of June. Do you believe it? (VIA Samsung Mobile Singapore)

Update6: Looks like SGS II is coming very soon to Singapore, as it is registered under IDA Singapore (click here to view the snapshot). Also, a brochure is posted on shoppingNsales selling Samsung Galaxy S II (and BlackBerry PlayBook), but they might be imported sets. (VIA SoyaCincau & Samsung Mobile Singapore)

Update7: Someone pasted email from M1 at Samsung Mobile Singapore Facebook page, which states that SGS II is available by first or second week of June. Your call.

Update8: SgMobileDeals discovered that M1 leaked the trade-in price for SGS II. (VIA Samsung Mobile Singapore)

Update9: Live demo sets will be up at Samsung Store in VivoCity starting from 31 May and the retail price is $998, as given by VR-Zone and SGMobileDeals.com. Complete coverage by VR-Zone here. To me, this is too expensive, as compared with rumored price for Malaysia.

Update10: Many SGS II fans tried out the live demo sets in VivoCity and posted their frustration with the laggy interface on the Samsung Mobile Singapore Facebook Page. From the screenshots posted (Hardware & Graphics), the model number (i9101) of the demo units matched with the rumored NFC version spotted earlier in the wild. Even weirder, the renderer for these SGS II units is the old Power VR SGX 540, not the Mali-400 MP as given in here and here. Is this the reason the demo units are laggy?

Update11: Maxis (Malaysia) has offered registration of interest for SGS II, you can read more about the spec here. Spoiler alert: is a Mali. (VIA SoyaCincau)

Update12: The Samsung store in VivoCity replaced the SGS II units to the well-known i9100 version (and with a Mali). They also labeled "prototype unit" everywhere now.

Update13: SGS II is scheduled to launch on 18 June 2011 in Singapore.

Update14: Samsung is very secretive about the release date of SGS II in Malaysia and Singapore. However, it should be arriving at the end of June, as told by Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics, and I speculate that it will be the same for Singapore, despite earlier rumor about 18 June 2011 launch. A Facebook user spotted a new model for SGS II or the I9100G registered under IDA Singapore. Two of the differences are the extra GSM encryption in I9100G (I9100) and lack of WMM Power Save (SOURCE). Maybe just a variation for different markets, such as Europe. Edit: Well, I was wrong about i9100g (see this post).

Update15: Another eagle-eyed fan spotted the SGS II launch (hopefully, Samsung Galaxy 2 is just a typo) in Malaysia at Midvalley Megamall on 22-26 Jun 2011! Malaysia SGS II fans, are you ready?

Update16: Samsung Malaysia also announced the launch date in Facebook, 22nd is confirmed! (VIA Amanz)

Update17: The official page for SGS II is up for Malaysia. However, the specs page (bullet view) erroneously listed Eclair as the Android version of SGS II, together with an unknown C-type Super AMOLED. Moreover, Maxis is offering SGS II for only RM799 (also confirmed the RRP of RM2099) for the first 300 customers, details here.

Update18: Malaysia SGS II sets are delivered to their respective owners who pre-ordered from the Lowyat.NET forum, from about RM2030-2050 (RRP: RM2099). For those who are not paying attention, that is even before the official launch day! For those who are desperate to see the local sets box, here you go. If you purchase from Samsung Elite Partners (aka SEP, total of 5 in Malaysia), you will get a two-year warranty (compared to the ordinary one), but you will not get a price cheaper than RM2099, and maybe receiving later (if a few-days delay matters for you). Oh, you can pre-order from the SEP already.

Update19: Finally, Samsung Mobile Singapore announced SGS II launch just one day before the launch date, 29th June.

Update20: SGS II Coral Pink was finally launched in Singapore on 18 Feb 2012 after 3 months behind Korea.

Edited 23 Feb 2012.
