The iPad 3 annoucement event

Yes, the date is 7 March 2012 and iPad 3 is here.

Before that, let us take a glimpse into other news brought to the public. Apple’s iOS 5.1 was leaked earlier and we learned the existence of a Japanese Siri. This was finally confirmed in this Apple event. Moreover, together with the announcement of iTunes in the cloud now support movies, a refresh of Apple TV that supports 1080p will be available next week (of course not in Malaysia/Singapore).

Finally, let us look at the tech spec of iPad. The pixels per inch doubles to 264 with a 2048 x 1536 resolution, 9.7-inch screen, dual-core A5X processor with quad-core graphics, new iSight Camera with 5MP, voice dictation, 4G LTE, 9.41 mm depth, and weights at least 652g. The retail price is USD 499/599/699 (16/32/64GB, WiFi only) and USD 629/729/829 (16/32/64GB, WiFi+4G). It will be available in 10 countries on 16 March (including Singapore, pre-orders start today!) Another 25 countries (26 areas) will have to wait a week later. Unfortunately, Malaysia is not in any of the list.

In this event, they also demonstrated Infinity Blade: Dungeons that has stunning graphics on this new iPad, together with iPhoto for iPad, updated GarageBand, iMovie, and iWork.

One short note: the new iPad is actually called "the new iPad" when compared side-by-side to price-reduced (less $100) iPad 2. More info at The Verge and Engadget.

Update: Singapore price is up, SGD 658/788/918 (16/32/64GB, WiFi only) and SGD 828/958/1088 (16/32/64GB, WiFi+4G). Yes, it is called the new iPad.

Update2: You can view the video of this event now.

Update3: Finally, it is coming to Malaysia on 20 April along with 11 other countries.
